Dear Justin,<\/p>\n

You may just remember my\u00a0name, \u00a0Summers OS (RHH) \u2013 I may have fined you for \u2018socking in the street\u2019 or doing something inappropriate up Judy\u2019s Passage. \u00a0Johnny Cameron ( Harrow, Christ Church) , my foursomes partner at Swinley tells me you once sold him some derivatives \u2013 \u00a0\u2018World\u2019s Worst Banker\u2019 we dub him, \u00a0losing the UK economy some \u00a313 billion \u2013 \u00a0I am now his self-appointed moral guardian ; trying to install a touch more humility into an Old Harrovian is a slow game.<\/p>\n

 Talking of humility … one gathers that when you were obliged to say a few words at one of those William Waldegrave \u00a0\/ Tony Little reunions in College Chapel you opened by saying, \u201c my career at school was only distinguished by its mediocrity\u201d \u00a0We like that, Justin. \u00a0My year included such luminaries as Nicky Wells and Nicky Gumbel whom you will recall from your Holy Trinity Brompton days. \u00a0Funnily enough, \u00a0I named my first daughter Pippa (now 26) after the latter\u2019s wife n\u00e9e Hislop.<\/p>\n
Nowadays I worship at Southwark Cathedral where also funnily enough, \u00a0Roger Royle (one of our vicars at school) is due to speak this coming Tuesday 27th at the Public Forum on \u2018A Lonely Society\u2019 Is this our Fate ?\u2019 \u2013 \u00a0starts at 7p.m. if you are at a loose end.<\/p>\n
Because I sometimes attend the church in lovely Farnham, \u00a0I was going to write to you (copying in the Bishop of Guildford) about the situation there \u2013 the parishioners have been without a shepherd since before Christmas, \u00a0ostensibly because Simon Reynolds \u2018was looking after his ill sister\u2019. \u00a0It turns out this was a fib \u2013 \u00a0he\u2019s out on bail accused of stealing funeral money from 700 families in Barnsley and maybe Farnham too. \u00a0Again funnily enough, my old nanny Glenys Phillips thought highly of the bloke and he attended her memorial service at St.Ffraid\u2019s, Trearddur Bay along with Meurig Williams. \u00a0I think they both trained with little Leanne Roberts, \u00a0one of our current Canons at Southwark. \u00a0One hopes that Farnham Church will soon have someone better at the helm.<\/p>\n
For my sins, \u00a0and after a disparate life mostly spent baking and mini-cabbing, \u00a0I have recently been appointed Chairman of Being Alongside\/APCMH (Pastoral Care, Mental Health) \u2013 \u00a0they do great work and we have Stephen Sykes (ex Bishop of Ely) as our Patron (sadly died recently)\u00a0<\/span><\/em>. Justin, \u00a0perhaps our paths will cross one day.<\/p>\n
